Sidney Zisook, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in treating adults who are experiencing grief, anxiety, or the effects of a mood disorder. His experience is in caring for people with complicated bereavement, as well as those with chronic mental health conditions or illnesses that do not respond well to treatment. Dr. Zisook also uses integrative therapy to treat each person as a whole, including their mental, physical and emotional needs.
As a distinguished professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Zisook instructs medical students and residents. He directs the Healer Education, Assessment and Referral (HEAR) program at UC San Diego School of Medicine and is passionate about training young clinicians and investigators. His academic and research interests focus on psychiatric education, physician suicide prevention, treatment of refractory depression and complicated grief.
Dr. Zisook completed a residency in psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and was a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School. He earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He is board certified in psychiatry.
