Sara Johansen, MD/MS is psychiatrist and industry consultant in digital mental health. Dr. Johansen is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University, the Director of Clinical Innovation for Stanford Brainstorm, and a faculty affiliate with the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Johansen founded Stanford’s Digital Mental Health Clinic, which offers a novel model of care using digital mental health interventions to enhance care, and she leads clinical operations and industry partnerships for the clinic. Dr. Johansen works with industry as a translational expert applying clinical medicine, business, research, and design principles to product development. She is an advisor for Stanford Venture Studios and partners with the Stanford Graduate School of Business to advise early-stage mental health startups. As an industry consultant, Dr. Johansen has a particular focus in social media, where she has contributed to both product development and research on the impact of digital platforms on mental health. She was an invited contributor to the Aspen Institute series on wellbeing, technology, and ethics, and the Stanford HAI seminar series for her work on social media and mental health. Dr. Johansen earned her BS in Biology from the University of Puget Sound, her MS in Biology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and her MD from the Stanford School of Medicine. She completed her residency training at Stanford, and she is now a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Stanford University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
