This year’s advanced psychopharmacology preconference is designed to give an overview of the “four most exciting things happening in Psychiatry”. You will leave this pre-conference energized and ready to take on the next 4 days of continued psychopharmacology education, one step ahead of your peers.

Topics to be covered:
· Emerging opportunities with rapid-acting antidepressants
· Psychedelics: where we are today and where we are headed
· Psychopharmacology advances for schizophrenia
· Overview of new technology and its impact on mental health

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify those findings which indicate that the positive symptoms of schizophrenia relate to excessive presynaptic striatal dopamine release.
  • Discuss how muscarinic M1 or M4 receptor stimulation by agonists (or positive allosteric modulators) regulate presynaptic striatal dopamine release via “bottom-up” (M4) or “top-down” (M1) mechanisms, and do so selectively, avoiding motor side effects.
  • Summarize the discovery of trace amine associated receptor-1 (TAAR1) agonism, and how TAAR1 agonists regulate presynaptic striatal dopamine release to treat psychosis, and do so selectively while avoiding motor side effects.
